This triptych was shown in MIAD's Asian Creative Union's exhibition "please excuse my dope asian swag" in January of 2024.
"These are the final pieces I made for my humanities project on bearing witness to history. This collection covers some of the facets of being a first generation Chinese-American kid, and for me specifically, being a biracial White-Asian kid.
I've had this internal conflict of being able to call myself Asian for my entire life since I’ve been told I’m more "white-passing" than some of my peers and don’t have a very deep connection with my culture or history, even though I was raised by my single Chinese mother my whole life. I feel “too white” for my Asian friends, and like an outsider around my non-Asian friends, but I still crave that connection and community that comes with the identity. After finishing this project last year I feel more comfortable with proudly identifying myself as a Chinese-American than I did before."
